Parchment craft dates back to the 14th century, the early days of written text. The craft began with communion cards and devotional pictures in Europe and the Netherlands, where the Catholic influence was quite prominent. All the cards were done by hand in the 14th century but the advent of the printing press in the 15th century made mass printing possible. Biblical themes were the most prominent and this continued through the 18th century. At this time the cards became larger and decorative borders done by hand were added, reviving the handwork and introducing the wavy borders and perforations with which we are now familiar. read more

A VERY SPECIAL DAY!

Bristol Craft Exhibition is now just few weeks away, this promise to be one of the largest specialist exhibition ever!

With 60 exhibitors it has become a large show, with international teachers and designer coming from Netherlands, Italy, Asia, Belgium and of course from UK

It is an open house exhibition where every organisation group and free lance designer will be represented.

Designers and teachers will be able to showcase themselves in a variety of styles. There is an opportunity to buy their pattern packs, which quite a few will be selling on the day.
Retailers will be present for all your parchment equipment, a catering service is provided in the hall with ample seating around the room to sit to have lunch and just enjoy the day with old acquaintances and perhaps new ones.

The venue itself is kind to travellers as it is beside the train station, it is on one of the main roads, buses stop out side for local traveller and the airport is 25 minutes away.

So many reasons to come and support the Bristol exhibition.
The exhibition has been organised by Pat Murphy with advertising sponsorship from Magmaker Ltd, who publish Parchment craft magazine, and support from the APC.

And please come and say hello, I will be demonstrating how to make flowers and plants. You can sit with me and have a go at them!!!
